Curated by Theo Downes-Le Guin and Nancy Downes-Le Guin, 2022: 27 minute audio documentary about the Bread and Roses strike of 1912 in Lawrence, MA in listening dome. Led by immigrant textile workers, my grandma and mum also were/are textile workers in Lawrence MA, facing the same poor working conditions and minimum wage that workers rallied against 110 years ago. Led by the IWW, this was a historic strike that achieved its demands, set a precedent in US industrial action history, but also involved “unsolved” protester death and demonization of strikers and anarchists. This 10ft weaving from worsted wool depicts the Merrimack River and dam, Everett Mills where the strike began, machines still used today to create woven fabric, ailments described in interviews textile workers experience, tools of the state, and tools that women/children used to protest.
